Changing Your Christmas Decor This Year? Don’t Throw the Old Ones Away

Planning a fresh Christmas look this year? 🎄 Before throwing away or storing your old decorations, give them another chance. Repurpose, donate, sell, or swap them and let someone else enjoy them this Christmas. ♻️

Christmas decorating starts early in the Philippines. Once the “ber months” arrive, many homes slowly bring out the Christmas tree, parol, lights, belens, wreaths, and other decorations that have been kept in boxes since last year. For many Filipino families, decorating the house is part of the excitement of welcoming the Christmas season.

But after using the same decorations for several years, you might be thinking of changing your Christmas theme this time. Maybe you want new colors, a simpler setup, or just something different for your home. That usually leaves us with one question: what should we do with the old Christmas decorations?

Before throwing them away or putting them back in storage where they might stay unused for another year, consider giving them another purpose. Many Christmas decorations can still be reused, refreshed, shared, sold, or exchanged with someone who would be happy to have them.

Here are a few practical ways to give your old Christmas decor another Christmas.

1. Repurpose and Upcycle 🎨

Old Christmas decorations can still become something new.

Old Christmas balls can be placed in a clear vase or bowl as a centerpiece. Ribbons and garlands can be reused for gift wrapping. An old wreath can be refreshed with new ribbons, flowers, or ornaments. Even old decor that looks outdated can sometimes look beautiful again with a little creativity.

You do not always need to buy everything new. Sometimes, a small makeover is enough.

2. Donate or Share ❤️

If your decorations are still in good condition but you no longer plan to use them, consider giving them to someone who will.

A neighbor, relative, school, church community, small office, or family may be happy to receive them. What may already feel old to you could help make someone else's Christmas a little brighter.

You can also simply post them online and offer them as a giveaway.

3. Resell or Swap 🔄

Some Christmas decorations can still have good value, especially artificial Christmas trees, quality lights, large ornaments, nativity sets, outdoor decorations, and reusable displays.

Instead of keeping them in storage for another year, you can sell them and use the money toward your new Christmas decor.

Or better yet, swap.

Maybe someone wants your red-and-gold decorations while you are looking for their white-and-silver set. Both of you get a fresh Christmas look without buying everything brand new.
